I have been growing vegetables for over 50 years and must say I have had quite a bit of
success.
My father worked in road construction and we lived on a rented farm. Back then there were no giant
supermarkets that you would run to every time you needed bread or milk.
We learned early that if you wanted to eat, you raised your own vegetables and farm animals.
Actually I hated it.... I got to do the weeding. When you have over an acre planted in all kinds of vegetables you
get a lot of weeds.
As the years past and I started to get a better appreciation for the land and what it could
produce I was introduced to organic farming. We started to produce our own compost and moved away from chemical
fertilizers. There was a noticeable difference in the quality and quantity of our production.
Now my garden has decreased in size and I have learned how to all but eliminate weeds. I still use
organic and bio-intensive methods of gardening. I now grow in 1/5 an acre what we used to grow in a whole acre.
Wide, raised beds have much improved the way things are grown.
So, here is my website on some of the things I have learned. Hopefully you will find something you
can use.
Sometime down the road I will turn this site into a blog and then you can send feedback and we can
start an ongoing conversation on organic gardening and farming.
